Also, thanks because I love reading your blog, and I understand the paycheck to paycheck struggle all too well right now. You SHOULD be paid for your writing. Especially because everything you write is so captivating and real. You deserve every penny.
Hi Taliya! Long story but yeah, I’ve written 3 book proposals over the past twenty years. Mormon memoir, divorce memoir etc. Had a great agent but there were no takers. Bad timing? Needed a bigger social media following? Who knows? I may write one one of these days, if it’s non fiction it will be a memoir of my childhood.
Self publish! :) You don't need an agent. You can sell it on Amazon, through Barnes and Noble, and a bunch of other independent publishers for self-published artists. An agent could pick it up some time, too. Definitely consider it! I am for my novel. I'll pre-order yours. There are also things like Reese Witherspoon's bookclub:
I work in the television industry and as you know, we couldn't work because of the strikes for 5 months. I cancelled most of my subscriptions (goodbye Washington Post, farewell Netflix and friends) but I have kept you because I feel exactly the same way. I'm glad that should I not be able to afford a month I'll still be able to read you, but i'm a firm believer in supporting people not corporations.
I'm forever pissed at people who enjoy bargaining when traveling to 3rd world countries but drop loads in European capitals without a care in the world.
Like others I support on Substack or Patreon, it's because I really connect with the writing or the music and know that, in order to keep it going, I feel I need to do my part. I'll continue subscribing unless that changes, which I imagine it won't. I missed your writing so much when you shut down your blog years ago and was grateful that I found you again. Thank you for continuing to write things that really dig deep and connect with people.
I started reading your blog way back at the beginning when I was a step mom and trying to navigate sudden parenthood and then through my divorce when I became a non-parent again. I’ve always enjoyed how you write about the world and life and loss. Thanks for sharing your words with us!
Hey Monica! You should write a book. I would so read that autobiography. Have you ever considered it?
